Santa Fe deputies hope to match goods, victims

SANTA FE (KRQE) - The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department has a room full of stolen property it is hoping to return to the rightful owners.

Sheriff Greg Solano said the property has been recovered over the past few months after a number of burglary arrests. The biggest bust was of a meth house.

"In this case they had a pickup and trailer full of things," Solano said.

The items inside include computers, televisions, printers, rifles and shotguns, drywall mixers, generators, shop vacuums, drills, hoses, chainsaws, utility lights, tool bags, tools and drywall and concrete tools.

Solano said not only does the department want to return the property to the rightful owners, investigators also want to build their cases against their suspects.

"We fully suspect all of this stuff is stolen, but to charge them with the crime we need to identify who the rightful owners are," Solano said.

The sheriff says the office will be open Thursday for anyone who wants to come and claim their property, but they won't just allow people to browse. Instead they must bring a police report or other proof of their property, and they will be shown items that match those that have been stolen.

Solano said he believes the items they have recovered were stolen over the last year and a half in Santa Fe and surrounding counties.
